Pets need cookies, too! Many households in your very neighborhood are likely to have at least one dog or cat (or both). If you are one of them or have made friends with the neighbors' pets, you may want to give your little furry friend a special treat occasionally. Make a batch of homemade dog "bones" or kitty treats.

Dog "Bones"

2 1/2 cups wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup powdered milk
3/4 cup cornmeal
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 egg
1 cup water
2 tsp. beef or chicken boullion
6 Tbl. butter, softened

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
1. Combine first 6 ingredients (flour - garlic) in a medium bowl and stir.

2. Dissolve boullion in water. Add to flour mixture. Add egg and butter as well. Stir well to combine.

3. On a well-floured surface, roll out dough flat and cut as desired.

4. Bake on a parchment-line cookie sheet at 325 degrees for 45 minutes.

5. Store in an airtight container.
